Sariann + David’s Scottish and Jewish Family Farm Wedding // Avon, CT
Sariann and David are those ridiculously interesting kind of people with a seemingly never-ending list of talents. When we first met, we talked about our ties to England, love of prawn cocktail crisps, and cross-country trips we’d taken (although they biked across the country, while we drove…). They’re both chefs who met while working in the restaurant business in England, and they just opened their restaurant The Broken Tulip, in Virginia. I will be making a road trip down there, by the way. Sariann also happens to be the author of the official Game of Thrones Cookbook (I swear this isn’t all product placement, I’m just really proud… look at all the five star reviews!) which is actually how she started her culinary career. Despite all their accomplishments, they’re some of the most fun, laid-back people I know. Their wedding incorporated so much of their heritage and passions, and everything felt super personal and special. The ceremony and reception was at Hawkridge farm in Avon, Connecticut, where Sariann grew up. The food was obviously homemade. Sariann is Jewish, so they got married under a chuppah, broke glass at the end of the ceremony, signed the ketubah, and of course danced the Hora at the reception. David is Scottish, so there were kilts, a sword-jumping and hand-fasting ceremony, and a couple hours of Scottish line dancing lessons at the reception. After the wholesome part of the dancing was over, their reception turned into one of the best parties I’ve ever been to, wedding or otherwise. The night ended with a mosh pit, and an almost Tony award-winning level Paradise by the Dashboard Light singalong.
